The new Pacific Image device is unique in bring consumer
pricing to film and slide processing for the first time. We found
only one other device in the Middle East dedicated to the task with
a price at $700, so the 1800u will come as welcome plus for professional
photographers and die-hard 35mm photographers cynical about digital.
Set-up was as simple as plugging in the included USB and launching
the bundled Presto! Manager software. |
Results were excellent and its maximum resolution of
36 bit 1800 dpi remarkable at the price. Scanning was also fast (one
of the trade-offs of less expensive devices usually) delivering previews
in 9 seconds and high resolution scans in 33 seconds. This exceeded
the manufacturers claims for the PrimeFilm, a welcome first. Results?
We found no diminution in quality with previously tasted Enterprise
devices with none of the scorched earth edging or blurring we expected
at this price. A niche product maybe, but highly recommended.
